JSP has a history of partnering with jurisdictions using a holistic, data-driven approach to understanding criminal justice system populations and practices, identifying areas for improvement, and proposing solutions to make systems more efficient and effective. In July of 2018, JSP began working with the City of Vancouver, Washington to complete a comprehensive review and analysis of current probation services for misdemeanant populations, assessing for effectiveness and cost efficiency.
As part of this work, JSP is developing a comprehensive profile of the City’s misdemeanor population to inform recommendations regarding programming needs and supervision practices. JSP is conducting a review of existing community-based programs, a cost-benefit analysis, and an examination of current probation practices, staffing structures and methods for responding to technical violations of probation. The assessment process will result in a set of recommendations regarding the structure and delivery of probation services.
